Louisville’s International Festival of Film
Louisville Originals to sponsor the Opening Night event of Louisville’s International Festival of Film. Opening Night is Thursday,
October 1, 2009, 6 pm, at The Kentucky Center and will feature small plate tastings from 20 of our Louisville Originals members along with drink tastings from Republic National Distributing of Kentucky for the red carpet reception. A special screening of "The Burning Plain" in the Bomhard Theater will be followed by a Q&A session with the director and actors following the film. A dessert and champagne toast after party in the lobby will complete the evening.
"The Burning Plain" is directed by Academy Award nominated screen writer Guillermo Arriaga ("Babel") and stars Charlize Theron, Kim Basinger and native Louisvillian Jennifer Lawrence.
Louisville's International Festival of Film will present over 30 independent films and shorts in competition for juried awards along with special invited films to be viewed from October 1-4, 2009. The Film Festival is presented by the Louisville Film Arts Institute (LFAI), a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Proceeds raised by the Film Festival go to support an educational initiative to help train students through high school film arts career magnet programs. In addition, the annual festival will showcase Kentucky to industry professionals who may consider the Commonwealth as a location for film production thanks to the recent passage of Kentucky’s film industry tax incentive.
Much of the excitement surrounding the film festival comes from the industry professionals and celebrities attending the event. So far, Guillermo Arriaga and Jennifer Lawrence of "The Burning Plain", Fay Ann Lee, director and star of “Falling for Grace” and Doris Roberts, star of “Another Harvest Moon” have confirmed their attendance. Other industry professionals attending include Gary Marsh, creator of Breakdown Services - an internet service for actors and agents; Nanci Link-Ellis with Insight Cinema, a film distribution firm; and Christian Robert Perala from Lionsgate, also a film distribution and production firm. Actress and producer Charlize Theron is planning to attend subject to any unforeseeable changes to her schedule.
